Julie C. Canman, PhD
Principal Investigator

Julie is the Principal Investigator of the lab.  She is originally from Wisconsin and completed her undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin, her graduate work at the University of North Carolina, and her postdoctoral work at both the University of Oregon and the University of California at San Diego. She has received the NIH Director's New Innovator award (2011-2016), the ASCB WICB Jr. Award for Excellence in Research (2017), and the Harold and Golden Lamport Award for Excellence in Basic Science Research (2018).

Michael Mauro, PhD
Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Mike is a postdoctoral research scientist in the lab. Originally from Connecticut, Mike earned a Bachelor of Science from Fairfield University, with a concentration in Molecular Biology in 2015. Mike then completed his PhD at Yale University in the Lab of Dr. Shirin Bahmanyar in 2021. Outside of the lab Mike is an avid runner, fan of all things movie related (especially Marvel and Star Wars) and The Office.

Caroline is a graduate student in the Pathobiology & Mechanisms of Disease doctoral program. Originally from the Washington, DC area, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Wesleyan University and her Master of Science degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She is interested in cell type-specific mechanisms that promote robust cytokinesis.

Tristian is a graduate student in the Biological Sciences doctoral program. Originally from Arkansas, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Hendrix College.

Sophia is a research technician in the lab. Originally from New York City, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Syracuse University. In her free time, Sophia enjoys going to concerts, reading novels, and traveling whenever and wherever she can!

Adriana Hernandez

Adriana is an undergraduate student at Columbia University originally from New York City. She is a biology major on the pre-dental track. In her free time she enjoys reading, baking, and writing short stories.

Mimi Schmidt

Mimi is an undergraduate student at Columbia University originally from Florida. She is studying Biology on the pre-Med track. In her free time she enjoys taking dance classes, listening to new music, and hiking.
